SAYING GRACE
SAYING GRACE
When I was growing up almost everyone I knew went to church. Children were taught early in life how and when to pray. We prayed each night before we went to sleep. We prayed during the day, when we needed answers for life. But the times I remember most hearing prayer was before EVERY meal. I don't mean when company came, or during the Holidays (Like a lot of people do now) or when someone thought about it, I mean faithfully before each meal. We never ate in front of the t.v. or when we got ready to. We ate when the food was made, and we always sat at our family table. If you didn't eat with the family, what Mama made, you went hungry. Mama would not let you into her kitchen to get any food once the meal was over. Trust me, Mama was a good cook, and you wanted to eat, but these days there is no family time at the table. Perhaps that is why you seldom hear A Table Grace these days. No one teaches their family to give "Thanks" anymore. I taught my daughter to give thanks, and I try to always remember to pray. I must admit that unlike my Daddy and Mama, I sometimes am already eating by the time I remember to pray. But I will stop, apologize, and then give "Thanks" wherever I am. I still pray in resturants.
